Sims To Miss Two Weeks After Undergoing Appendectomy

Last updated on Tuesday, August 9, 2011

(ANDERSON, IN) - Indianapolis Colts training camp continues at Anderson University as the team prepares for its preseason opener with the St. Louis Rams on Saturday night.

After taking Sunday off, the colts were back Monday morning with a full-squad workout followed by a special-teams only practice in the afternoon.

The players will work out in shorts this morning followed by a practice in shells this afternoon.

One of the sidebars Saturday night in St. Louis will be the battle for the backup quarterback position.

Recent signee Dan Orlovsky is expected to compete with incumbent Curtis Painter for the job of backing up Peyton Manning.

Linebacker Ernie Sims is expected to be out two weeks after undergoing an appendectomy on Sunday.

Sims was signed last week as a potential replacement at weak side linebacker for Clint Session, who went to Jacksonville via free agency.

Second-year linebacker Kavell Conner is another potential replacement for session.

Conner was back on the field yesterday after dislocating his right pinkie finger in practice on Friday.

Conner had the last two fingers of his right hand wrapped in a cast, but says that he can still tackle.
