Ambrose Wins First Career Cup Race At Soggy Watkins Glen

Last updated on Tuesday, August 16, 2011

(WATKINS GLEN, NY) - Marcos Ambrose picked up his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win, taking Monday’s rain-delayed race on the road course at Watkins Glen.

Ambrose beat Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch in a green-white-checkered finish to pick up the win. Martin Truex Jr and Joey Logano round out the top five.

With the win, Ambrose jumps to 22nd in points.

He needs to get up to 20th to become eligible for one of the two "wild card" spots to get into the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

With his two wins this season, Keselowski leads the wild card standings with Denny Hamlin currently holding the other spot.

Hamlin crashed early in Monday's race as did brickyard 400 winner Paul Menard, who is third in the wild card standings.

The top ten in points automatically qualify for the Chase. Columbus native Tony Stewart is currently tenth in points.

His lead over eleventh-place Clint Bowyer is 25 points with four races remaining before the start of the Chase.
