Reds Blow Eight Run Lead, Need Extra Innings To Edge Cardinals

(ST. LOUIS, MO) - The Cincinnati Reds blew an 8-0 lead, but Ramon Hernandez’ pinch-hit RBI double in the top of the 13th inning gave the Reds a 9-8 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Jay Bruce and Scott Rolen hit two run home runs, Chris Heisey and Fred Lewis added solo shots and Brandon Phillips had a two-run triple as the reds led 8-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth.

St. Louis scored twice in the sixth and five times in the seventh.

John Jay tied the game with a solo homer leading off the bottom of the ninth off Reds closer Francisco Cordero.

Aroldis Chapman pitched the bottom of the 13th, allowing a hit while striking out two to collect his first major league save.
