Jeter Moves Closer To 3,000, Granderson Homers Twice As Yankees Thrash Indians

(CLEVELAND, OH) - Curtis Granderson homered twice, Derek Jeter got two hits closer to 3,000 and CC Sabathia threw seven shutout innings as the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 9-2.

Granderson hit a two-run homer in the second inning and a solo shot in the fourth off Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco.

Jeter had a two-run double in New York's five-run second inning to go with an infield single in the first to give him 2,996 hits for his career.

Sabathia allowed five hits and two walks while striking out eleven in his seven innings of work to improve to 12-4.

The Indians scored both of their runs in the ninth on sacrifice flies by Lou Marson and Michael Brantley.

Carrasco took the loss to drop to 8-5.
