Cleveland Survives Yankees Rally, Jeter Now Three Hits From Milestone

(CLEVELAND, OH) - Justin Masterson threw eight shutout innings as the Cleveland Indians survived a ninth-inning New York rally to beat the Yankees 5-3.

Masterson allowed three hits in improving to 7-6 on the season.

Rookie Lonnie Chisenhall hit his first major league home run and Travis Hafner had an RBI single as Cleveland built a 5-0 lead.

In the ninth, Vinnie Pestano failed to retire a batter, allowing three earned runs before Chris Perez came in to retire the Yankees and pick up his 21st save.

Derek Jeter went 1-3 with an eighth inning double off Masterson. Jeter is now three hits shy of 3,000 for his career.
