(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - While speculation continues on when and how the NFL lockout will end, two of the league’s premier quarterbacks, and their agent Tom Condon, spent yesterday dispelling rumors in regards to their candidacy as unrestricted free agents.
Peyton Manning and New Orleans Saints' quarterback Drew Brees were two of ten plaintiffs named in the Brady versus the NFL Lawsuit.
According to the Boston Globe, the franchise cornerstones were hoping to be exempt from the franchise tag option for the remainder of their playing careers.
If these exceptions were included in the settlement, Manning would be an unrestricted free agent once the lockout is lifted.
Brees would also be exempt from the franchise tag when his contract expires after this season.
The franchise tag is an instrument used by teams to prevent players from bolting to another city once their contract ends.
The tag restricts the player from testing the open market, but guarantees him maximum salary for that position under a one year tender.
