Schierholtz's Clutch Hitting Gives Giants Extra Innings Win Over Cardinals

Last updated on Thursday, June 2, 2011

(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Nate Schierholtz supplied a pair of big, two-out hits as the San Francisco Giants got past the St. Louis Cardinals 7-5 in eleven innings.

The Redbirds held a 5-4 lead thanks to Allen Craig's pinch-hit, two-run homer in the seventh.

Cardinals reliever Fernando Salas retired the first two batters in the ninth before Aubrey Huff walked.

Pinch-runner Emmanuel Burriss stole second and scored when Schierholtz singled to center.

In the eleventh, Ryan Franklin gave up a ground-rule double to Freddy Sanchez.

Franklin got Burriss to pop out before Schierholtz' single to right allowed Sanchez to score the go-ahead run.
