(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indiana Fever will play the remainder of the WNBA season without starting point guard Briann January.

January suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. She suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Indiana's 91-86 win over the Phoenix Mercury Tuesday night at Conseco Fieldhouse.

The third-year pro out of Arizona State averaged 8.6 points and 5 assists per game in her first season as the Fever's starting point guard. She ranks seventh in the WNBA in assists. She was a key to Indiana's 7-and-3 start as the Fever hold the early lead in the Eastern Conference.

Head Coach Lin Dunn says Erin Phillips or Shannon Bobbitt will be expected to fill the void although Dunn says she may go to a point guard-by-committee system for a while to adjust to January's loss.

Surgery will be performed in the next four to six weeks and the team expects January to recover in time for the 2012 season.
