Cubs Top Giants In Pitchers Duel

Last updated on Thursday, June 30, 2011

(CHICAGO, IL) - Aramis Ramirez’ pinch-hit RBI single with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Chicago Cubs a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants.

The game was a pitchers' duel between Chicago's Ryan Dempster and San Francisco's Tim Lincecum. The Cubs got to Lincecum in the seventh when Carlos Pena doubled and came home on a single by Blake Dewitt.

Dempster retired 20 Giants in a row until Pat Burrell led off the top of the ninth with a double. Dempster was replaced by closer Carlos Marmol and Marmol gave up a game-tying RBI single to Emmanuel Burriss.

Tony Campana led off the bottom of the ninth with an infield single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Reed Johnson and moved on to third on a groundout by Geovany Soto. Ramirez came up to hit for Marmol and drove an 0-2 pitch from Sergio Romo into left field for the game winner.
