Cubs Lose Following Wells' Bad Start

Last updated on Monday, June 27, 2011

(KANSAS CITY, MO) - The Kansas City Royals scored early and often a 6-to-3 win over the Chicago Cubs yesterday.

Another bad day for Cubs' pitcher Randy Wells started in the first inning when the royals used eight hitters to build a 4-to-nothing lead.

Geonvanny Soto hit a home run in the third inning, then had an RBI double in the fourth to reduce the Cubbie deficit to 4-to-3. Soto finished with three hits and two runs-batted-in.

The Royals scored two more runs and Wells was relieved after six-innings pitched and six-runs allowed. He has earned a winning decision since April 4th.

Starlin Castro extended his hitting streak to a personal best 10-games with a single in the first inning.

After hosting the Colorado Rockies for one game today, the Cubs open a four game series against the world champion San Francisco Giants at Wrigley Field tomorrow.
