Hilderbrand's Runner Up Finish Earns Him Rookie Of The Year Honors

Last updated on Tuesday, May 31, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Tough-luck Indianapolis 500 runner-up J.R. Hildebrand was named the Rookie of the Year at Monday’s victory banquet.

Hildebrand had a substantial lead on the final lap when he went high in turn four to avoid the slower car of Charlie Kimball, got up into the marbles and hit the wall.

Hildebrand managed to pilot his severely damaged car across the finish line in second place.

He and his Panther Racing teammates took home a check for more than one million dollars for their efforts on Sunday.

It was the fourth year in a row that Panther had a car finish second in the Indy 500.
