Former Butler Coach Joe Sexson Has Died

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Former Indiana Mister Basketball and Butler Basketball Coach Joe Sexson has died.

He was 77.

Sexson led Indianapolis Arsenal Technical High School to the State Finals in 1952, losing to Muncie Central in the championship game.

He was honored by the Indianapolis Star with Mister Basketball honors in 1952.

He played collegiately at Purdue where he was the team captain and team MVP as a senior in 1956. He averaged 19 points per game as a senior at Purdue.

He was a baseball coach and an assistant basketball coach for the Boilermakers before being hired as head basketball coach at Butler in 1978.

He coached the bulldogs through 1989, compiling a 143-188 record.
