Last updated on Wednesday, March 2, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Former IndyCar Series driver Sam Schmidt has purchased the assets of Fazzt race team and will rejoin the series as a full-time owner.

Fazzt was co-owned by Alex Tagliani and Tagliani will remain with the team as the driver for the Sam Schmidt Motorsports entry.

Schmidt was paralyzed in a testing accident at Orlando 2000 and became an owner in IndyCar's feeder series, now known as Firestone Indy Lights.

Schmidt's team has won four Indy Lights Championships. Sam Schmidt Motorsports was already committed to field three part-time entries in this year's IndyCar Series, supplying cars for Wade Cunningham in four races as well as Indianapolis entries for Townsend Bell and Jay Howard.
