Painter Signs Contract Extension To Stay With Boilers

Last updated on Thursday, March 31, 2011

(WEST LAFAYETTE, IN) - Matt Painter is staying at Purdue and will remain head basketball coach of the Boilermakers.

Painter turned down an offer to become the head coach at Missouri and accepted an eight-year contract extension from Purdue.

Terms of the new deal, which runs through the 2018-2019 season, were not disclosed.

Painter played at Purdue and succeeded Gene Keady as head coach in April of 2005.

He has been named Big Ten Coach of The Year in three of his six seasons as leader of the Boilers.

Missouri was looking for a replacement for Mike Anderson, who left the Tigers to become head coach at the University of Arkansas.
