IndyCar Series Continues To Tweak Rules For Upcoming Season

Last updated on Thursday, March 10, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The tweaking of rules for the upcoming Izod IndyCar Series season continues.

The Indianapolis Star reports that starts and restarts of races will occur closer to the start-finish line.

In recent years, particularly at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, leaders have been allowed to increase the pace well ahead of the line, leading to the pack being strung out at the start of races and on restarts.

Another change will be a rule similar to NASCAR's "lucky dog", where the first car not on the lead lap is allowed to regain a lap on restarts.

The new policies, along with double-file restarts which was announced earlier, will be in place for all 17 IndyCar Series races this season.
