Last updated on Wednesday, January 12, 2011

(ANN ARBOR, MI) - Former Ball State football coach Brady Hoke is the new head coach of the Michigan Wolverines.

Michigan announced Hoke's hiring hours after LSU coach Les Miles announced that he was staying in Baton Rouge.

Hoke is a Ball State graduate but did serve as an assistant coach at Michigan under Lloyd Carr.

He left Michigan to take over as Ball State's head coach in 2003.

He led the Cardinals to a 12-1 mark in 2008 before heading to San Diego State.

He replaces Rich Rodriguez, who went 15-22 in three seasons with the Wolverines.
