Notre Dame To Honor Student Killed In Football Practice Accident

Last updated on Friday, October 29, 2010

(SOUTH BEND, IN) - The Notre Dame Football team will wear decals on their helmets Saturday to honor a student who died while videotaping football practice.

Twenty-year-old Declan Sullivan was killed when high winds toppled the scissor lift he was on during Wednesday's practice.

Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick was on the practice field at the time of the accident and says he didn't see the lift fall but heard the crash.

Swarbrick says an extraordinarily strong gust of wind hit the practice field immediately before the crash, causing towels and Gatorade coolers to fly in the air.

Notre Dame and other universities are examining their policies for using hydraulic lifts.
