Johnson Looks To Maintain Points Lead In Charlotte

(CONCORD, NC) - Qualifying for Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race is scheduled for tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Jimmie Johnson enters the weekend as the points leader, holding a 36-point advantage over Denny Hamlin.

Johnson is going for his fifth-straight Sprint Cup Championship and won both the pole and the race at Charlotte one year ago.

Tony Stewart enters the race in fifth place in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, 107 points behind Johnson.

The Columbus, Indiana native put himself back into contention for a third Sprint Cup Title with his win last week at Fontana, California.
