Red Sox Keep Slim Playoff Hopes Alive With Win Over White Sox

Last updated on Tuesday, September 28, 2010

(CHICAGO, IL) - The Boston Red Sox are alive in the playoff chase for at least one more day after beating the Chicago White Sox 6-1.

Clay Buchholz allowed a run on five hits in his eight innings of work to improve to 17-7.

David Ortiz, Adrian Beltre and Victor Martinez drove in two runs apiece for the Red Sox, who need to win out and have either the Yankees or the Rays lose all of their remaining games to force a playoff for the American League Wild Card.

Brent Morel drove in the lone Chicago run with a sacrifice fly as Mark Buehrle takes the loss for the White Sox, falling to 12-13.
