(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington South was riding a 17 game win streak against the BNL Stars entering Friday's contest, but hadn't played the Stars in the past six years, oh how things have changed.

The Stars, no longer the pushover team of years past, came into Bloomington South full of confidence for their season opener and came away with a hard fought overtime win over the Panthers.

The Stars scored first after on a Kraig Smoot 26 yard run that capped a long 11 play 80 yard drive with a little over two minutes to play in the first quarter.

The point after kick was off the mark, putting BNL up 6-0.

South would answer in the second quarter when the Panthers capitalized on a Stars fumble, drove the ball 84 yards on nine plays and found pay dirt on a Michael Bower three yard run.

Drew Barlow's kick was good putting South up 7-6, which was the score at the half.

A three yard run by Marcus Sullivan and a two point conversion run by Christian Parsch put the Stars up 14-7 after three quarters of play.

BNL would open up the scoring in the fourth quarter with an Eric Sowders one yard run, Colin Bartlett knocked in the PAT to put BNL up 21-7 with 9 minutes to play.

South would score twice with less than five minutes to play with a Bower one yard run, and then a Bower 10 yard pass to Lucas Franz with 40 seconds to play to force the game into overtime.

The Stars had possession first and scored on the first play when Parsch caught a Sowders pass, and then Parsch ran in the two point conversion.

South answered on their first play of OT when Bower would run from ten yards out for a TD, setting up a key 2 point conversion try.

Bower launched a ball to the corner of the endzone intended for 6'3" Lucas Franz, but 5'9" Stars cornerback Jay Thomas tipped away the pass securing the Stars 29-27 victory.

BNL (1-0) hosts Bloomington North (1-0) on Friday, while Bloomington South (0-1) travels to Martinsville (1-0)
