(WASHINGTON, DC) - Ryan Dempster threw seven shutout innings as the Chicago Cubs exploded late to get past the Washington Nationals 4-0.

The game was a scoreless duel between Dempster and former Cub Jason Marquis until the eighth when Starlin Castro broke the deadlock with an RBI double and Aramis Ramirez hammered a two-run homer.

Alfonso Soriano added a solo shot in the ninth as the Cubs complete the three-game series sweep and go to 3-0 under interim manager Mike Quade.

Dempster picked up the win to move to 12-8 while Marquis took the loss to fall to 0-7.
