Reds Use Big Fifth Inning To Edge Mets

Last updated on Tuesday, July 6, 2010

(NEW YORK, NY) - Joey Votto hit a pair of solo homers as the Cincinnati Reds extended their lead in the NL Central with an 8-6 victory over the New York Mets.

The Reds blew the game open in the fifth when Scott Rolen drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch.

Mets manager Jerry Manual was ejected arguing that call.

Drew Stubbs followed with a two-run single, Corky Miller added a two-run double and starter Travis Wood capped the six-run inning with an RBI triple.

The Mets came back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, but would not score again.

With the win, the Reds move two games in front of idle St. Louis in the Central Division.
