Cardinals Pick Up Eighth Straight Win

(ST. LOUIS, MO) - The St. Louis Cardinals ran their winning streak to eight games with a 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Albert Pujols gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the fourth with Ryan Howard tying the game with his 22nd home run of the year in the sixth.

Matt Holliday put the Cardinals ahead for good in the seventh when he hit a solo homer off Phillies starter Joe Blanton.

St. Louis picked up three insurance runs in the eighth to get the win and extend their lead over Cincinnati in the NL Central to a game and a half.

Jaime Garcia allowed one run over seven innings to improve to 9-4 while Blaton took the loss to drop to 3-6.
