Last updated on Wednesday, May 26, 2010

(SAN DIEGO, CA) - The St. Louis Cardinals could not take advantage of Cincinnati’s loss earlier in the evening as they were shut out by the San Diego Padres 1-0.

Jerry Haiston Jr. provided the game's lone run when he hit a solo home run off St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright in the second inning.

Jon Garland and the San Diego bullpen made the run hold up.

Garland allowed six hits over seven innings, walking two while striking out seven to improve to 6-2.

Wainwright was the hard-luck loser, giving up the run on four hits while walking one and striking out twelve to drop to 6-3.

St. Louis remains in a flat-footed tie with the Reds for first place in the NL Central.
