Conrad's Pinch Hit Walk Off Grand Slam Caps Braves Ninth Inning Rally

Last updated on Friday, May 21, 2010

(ATLANTA, GA) - Brooks Conrad’s pinch-hit grand slam off Cincinnati closer Francisco Cordero capped Atlanta’s seven-run bottom of the ninth as the Braves came away with a 10-9 victory over the Reds.

The Reds held a 9-3 lead entering the ninth on the strength of big games from Joey Votto and Laynce Nix.

Votto hit a grand slam off Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson as Cincinnati scored eight times in the top of the second.

Nix capped that big inning with a two-run double and later added a solo home run.

The quartet of Mike Lincoln, Nick Masset, Arthur Rhodes and Cordero pitched the ninth for the Reds with Rhodes recording the only out, striking out the only batter he faced, rookie sensation Jayson Heyward, with the bases loaded.

Atlanta then sent up Conrad to pinch hit and he drilled a 2-2 pitch from Cordero over the left field wall to give the Braves the ball game.
