The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by David Freese in the second and another run-scoring single from Ryan Ludwick in the third.

Cincinnati tied it in the sixth on a two-run home run by Orlando Cabrera. Freese would add an RBI single to cap St. Louis' big seventh inning.
