Hamlin To Race Less Than Two Weeks After Knee Surgery

Last updated on Thursday, April 8, 2010

(PHOENIX, AZ) - The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is back in action this weekend following its traditional Easter week off.

Practice and qualifying will take place on Friday at Phoenix International Raceway with the race on Saturday evening.

Four-time defending cup champion Jimmie Johnson owns the points lead, but much of the focus will be on Denny Hamlin.

Hamlin won the rain-delayed March 29th race at Martinsville, Virginia and underwent surgery to repair a torn knee ligament two days later.

He said he will race this weekend at PIR, but Joe Gibbs Racing will have Casey Mears standing by in case Hamlin needs a relief driver.
