Colts Select TCU's Sack Master Jerry Hughes In First Round

Last updated on Friday, April 23, 2010

(UNDATED) - The Indianapolis Colts selected defensive end Jerry Hughes from Texas Christian University with their first-round pick in the NFL draft.

Hughes is six-foot-two, 255 pounds and is a pass rusher in the mold of Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis.

Hughes recorded 28 sacks in his career with the Horned Frogs, 15 as a junior and eleven during his senior year.

The draft continues this evening with rounds two and three.

The Colts have the 31st pick in the second round and the 30th selection in the third round - numbers 63 and 94 overall.

No players from Indiana schools were selected on day one of the NFL Draft.

Notre Dame Quarterback Jimmy Clausen was probably the best candidate from the state to be a first round selection.

Only two quarterbacks were drafted in the opening round with Oklahoma's Sam Bradford going number-one overall to the St. Louis Rams and Florida's Tim Tebow going with the 25th pick to the Denver Broncos.

Two other players from Indiana universities who could go on day two this evening are Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate and Indiana University left tackle Rodger Saffold.
