Bulldogs Use Second Half Rally To Knock Off UTEP

(SAN JOSE, CA) - The Butler Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 77-59 win over Texas-El Paso in San Jose.

Shelvin Mack led the Bulldogs with 25 points, hitting a career-high seven three-pointers.

Gordon Hayward finished with 13 points with Matt Howard adding eleven as Butler extended the nation's longest active winning streak to 21 games.

Derrick Caracter led UTEP with 20 points and nine rebounds with Randy Culpepper scoring 16 points as the miners finish the season at 26-7.

Butler improves to 29-4 and will face Murray State in the second round on Saturday.

The Racers upset fourth seeded Vanderbilt 66-65 in their opener.
