Jamie McMurray Wins Pothole Delayed Daytona 500

Last updated on Monday, February 15, 2010

(DAYTONA, FL) - Jamie McMurray won Sunday’s 52nd running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

McMurray narrowly edged out second place Dale Earnhardt Jr by .119 seconds.

The race started just after 1pm eastern time, but was forced to finish under the lights because there was a pothole on the track that required two stoppages and delayed the race by more than two hours.

There were a flurry of late race accidents that created three-two lap sprints to the finish.

On the final restart, Earnhardt came from 10th position to finish second.

Greg Biffle finished third while Clint Bowyer and David Reutimann rounded out the top 5.
