(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Negotiations between the Indianapolis Colts and linebacker Gary Brackett are underway.
Brackett will become an unrestricted free agent on March fifth if a deal cannot be worked out.
Brackett's agent told the Indianapolis Star on Friday that Brackett wants to remain with the Colts and that he will work with team president Bill Polian to keep the Pro Bowl linebacker in Indianapolis.
Brackett was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers in 2003.
He has gone on to become the team's captain on defense.
Brackett signed a four-year extension in 2006 for more than ten million dollars, including three-point-five million dollars in bonuses.
Polian has said that the team will do everything within reason to re-sign Brackett, but the Colts have historically allowed their linebackers to test the market.
Since Brackett's arrival, the Colts have lost Mike Peterson, Marcus Washington, David Thornton and Cato June to free agency.
