Last updated on Tuesday, December 15, 2009

(UNDATED) - Butler’s Gordon Hayward is the Horizon League men’s basketball player of the week.

The sophomore swingman from Brownsburg scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Bulldogs' 72-65 loss to Georgetown in the Jimmy-V Classic last Tuesday and repeated those numbers in a 74-66 win over then 15th ranked Ohio State last Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Hayward is third in scoring in the Horizon League at just under 17 points per game and is averaging eight rebounds per contest.

The Purdue Boilermakers and the Butler Bulldogs moved up in this week's ESPN / USA Today coaches' poll.

The Boilers moved up one spot to number-four in this week's rankings following victories over Valparaiso and Alabama last week.

Purdue is off to a 9-0 start, their best since winning their first 14 games to start the 1993-94 season.

The Boilermakers face Ball State in the Wooden Tradition at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs are up three places to number-17 in this week's rankings following their loss to Georgetown and their win over Ohio State last week.

Butler is 7-3 and will host the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday afternoon.
