(SOUTH BEND, IN) - Whoever replaces Charlie Weis as head football coach at Notre Dame will start without two major weapons from the 2009 Fighting Irish offense.
Junior Quarterback Jimmy Clausen and Junior Wide Receiver Golden Tate announced Monday that they would forgo their senior seasons and enter the NFL Draft.
Clausen completed 68 percent of his passes during his junior season, throwing 28 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
His future at Notre Dame became clouded when Weis was fired last week.
Clausen, a California native, chose Notre Dame over USC three years ago because he felt Weis was the best coach to prepare him for a career in the NFL.
Tate had 93 receptions this past season with 15 TD catches and a pair of touchdown runs. The Irish lost their final four games of the season to finish at 6-6, a swoon that wound up costing Weis his job.
Weis was present between Clausen and Tate at yesterday's news conference.
Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick reportedly will meet with Cincinnati's Brian Kelly and Stanford's Jim Harbaugh this week about the coaching vacancy.
Kelly confirmed that he has a meeting with Notre Dame officials today via his Twitter account.
Harbaugh said on ESPN last night that he does not have a meeting scheduled with Notre Dame.
