Bob Knight Will Not Attend His Hall Of Fame Induction

Last updated on Friday, October 30, 2009

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Former Indiana University Basketball Coach Bob Knight will not be in attendance when he is inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame on November 6th.

IU Athletic Director Fred Glass said that Knight contacted him directly on Wednesday to say he would not attend the ceremony.

Knight told glass that he would not be attending due to concerns that media interest in his attendance would detract from the others being inducted.

Former Bloomington Herald-Times Writer Bob Hammel will represent Knight at next Friday's ceremony.

Knight coached the Hoosiers from 1971 through 2000 and is the winningest coach in NCAA Division-One history.

Knight and the university have been at odds since then-Indiana President Myles Brand fired him in September of 2000.
