Colts Open Caldwell Era With 14-12 Win

Last updated on Monday, September 14, 2009

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts opened the Jim Caldwell era with a 14-12 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Peyton Manning threw for 301 yards and fired a 35-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne, but the Colts' defense would turn out to be the key to the win.

After Maurice Jones-Drew scored on a seven-yard touchdown run to draw the jags to within two points with over eleven minutes remaining, the Colts stuffed Jones-Drew on the two-point conversion attempt to maintain the lead.

Jacksonville would get one last chance with two minutes remaining, taking over at their own 35-yard-line after the colts failed to convert on fourth and one.

After holding Jones-Drew to a two-yard run on first down, the Horseshoes forced three in-completions from David Garrard to regain possession and run down the clock.

With the win, the Colts gain sole possession of first place in the AFC South.
