Colts Cut Down To 53-Man Roster Limit

Last updated on Monday, September 7, 2009

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts got down to the league-mandated 53-man roster limit on Saturday.

Jim Caldwell's first Colts team as head coach will bear one major difference from Tony Dungy's squads, three quarterbacks on the roster.

Purdue rookie Curtis Painter has made the cut as the Colts will have three quarterbacks suited up on opening day for the first time since Dungy's first season in Indianapolis in 2002.

The Colts will also carry two kickers as Shane Andrus makes the team to help out incumbent Adam Vinatieri, who is coming off knee and hip surgeries during the Off-season.

The colts also activated pro bowl safety Bob Sanders off the physically unable to perform list.

Sanders may miss Sunday's opener with Jacksonville, but leaving him on PUP would have meant he would miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season.
