(WATKINS GLEN, NY) - Tony Stewart picked up his third win of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season with his victory in Monday's rain-delayed race at Watkins Glen.

The Columbus, Indiana native beat second-place finisher Marcos Ambrose by almost three seconds to pick up his seventh Sprint Cup win on a road course.

Jeff Gordon holds the record with nine road course victories in NASCAR's Top Series.

The former Pittsboro resident finished 37th after being in a spectacular five car accident that also took Sam Hornish Junior out of the race.

Stewart extends his points lead over Jimmie Johnson to 260 with Gordon falling 342 points behind.
