Cardinals Score Five In The Top Of Eighth For 7-3 Win

(PITTSBURGH, PA) - The St. Louis Cardinals scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to come from behind and defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3, completing a three-game sweep at PNC Park.

Skip Schumaker put St. Louis ahead with a pinch-hit two-run homer and Ryan Ludwick added a two-run double in the big inning.

Pittsburgh closer Matt Capps, who gave up the home run to Schumaker, was ejected later in the inning after hitting Albert Pujols with a pitch.

Rookie Steve Pearce hit a two-run homer for the pirates, who lost their eighth-straight game, all at home.
