White Sox Over Tigers With 5-1 Win

(DETROIT, MI) - Clayton Richard pitched eight strong innings as the Chicago White Sox avoided a sweep in Detroit with a 5-1 win over the Tigers.

The Lafayette Native allowed a run on five hits to improve to 4 and 3.

The White Sox scored four runs in the top of the first capped by a titanic two-run shot from Paul Konerko, his 19th home run of the season.

Rookie Gordon Beckham would add a solo shot of Tigers starter and loser Rick Porcello in the second.

Chicago entered the four-game series tied with Detroit for first place in the AL Central.

They leave the motor city two games behind the Tigers in the division.
