(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The US National Swimming Championships begin today at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.

The featured attraction at this week's meet is 14-time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps.

Phelps, who won a record eight golds at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, will compete in four events.

He will begin on Wednesday in the 200-meter freestyle and the 200-meter butterfly.

Phelps is the world-record holder in both events.

He will compete in the 100-meter butterfly on Thursday and the 100-meter freestyle on Friday.

The swimmers are going for spots on the United States team for the world championships in Rome later this month.
