(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - One world record was set on Wednesday at the USA Swimming National Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, and it was not set by Michael Phelps.

Five-time Olympic Gold Medalist Aaron Peirsol set a new mark in the men's 100-meter backstroke at 51.94 seconds, becoming the first man to complete the distance in less than 52 seconds.

Phelps won his two events on Wednesday, taking first place in both the 200-meter freestyle and the 200-meter butterfly and locking up a berth on the US National Team that will compete in the World Championships later this month in Rome.

The 14-time Olympic Gold Medalist was unable to best his world records set in both events during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
