Eagles Defense Coordinator Dies Tuesday

(PHILADELPHIA, PA) - Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson died Tuesday.

He was 68 years old and had been battling a cancerous tumor on his spine.

Johnson spent four seasons in the mid-1970s as an assistant coach under Lee Corso at Indiana University before heading north to become an assistant under Dan Devine at Notre Dame, serving as defensive backs coach for the Fighting Irish during their national championship season in 1977.

He was later promoted to defensive coordinator and assistant head coach under Gerry Faust at Notre Dame.

Johnson also served as linebackers coach under Ted Marchibroda for the Colts from 1994 through 1996 and was defensive coordinator for the Horseshoes in 1997 under Lindy Infante.
