Last updated on Wednesday, June 17, 2009

(COLORADO SPRINGS) - Seventeen college basketball players began competing for twelve openings on the 2009 USA Basketball Men’s University Games team Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Two of those trying out are Purdue juniors Jajuan Johnson and Robbie Hummel.

The team has a heavy big ten flavor as Ohio State's Evan Turner, Penn State's Talor Battle and Illinois' Mike Tisdale are among those competing for roster spots.

The team is coached by Wisconsin's Bo Ryan.

Hummel reports no problems with his back, an injury that hampered him for most of last season.

The final team will compete at the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia from July second through the twelfth.
