Briscoe Dominates, But Dixon Wins In Milwaukee

Last updated on Monday, June 1, 2009

(WEST ALLIS, WI)- Scott Dixon was 24 laps from a runner up finish in Sunday’s ABC Supply AJ Foyt 225 when the reigning IndyCar series champion suddenly made his move.

Dixon, who won in Kansas last month, passed pole-sitter Ryan Briscoe on lap 201 of the 225 lap affair before taking the checkered flag.

Dixon's Target Ganassi Teammate Dario Franchitti was 3rd, with Graham Rahal and Danica Patrick rounding out the top 5.

Briscoe had dominated the day, leading 154 laps before being overtaken by Dixon.

Approaching the lapped car of Tomas Sheckter, Briscoe had to brake momentarily, allowing Dixon to pass him on the inside.

Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves was unable to carry the momentum he accumulated at the Brickyard.

The Brazilian, who had dominated Indianapolis, had to start at the back of Sunday's race after a qualifying crash on Saturday.

He finished in 11th place, one lap off the leaders.

Fellow countryman Tony Kannan, racing with injuries suffered in an Indy crash on May 24th, left the race after his car caught fire in his pit stall.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but Kanaan, who finished 19th, was uninjured.
