(CONCORD) - Ryan Newman will be on the pole for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte.
The South Bend native turned in a lap of 188.475 miles per hour to take his eighth career pole at LMS, tops among active drivers.
Kyle Busch will start alongside Newman in the front row with Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson putting three Hedrick motorsports cars in the top five.
Among other Indiana drivers, Columbus' Tony Stewart will start 28th, South Bend's David Stremme goes off 35th and LaPorte's Tony Raines will start 41st.
