Cincinnati Shut Out Pirates, 5-Zip

(PITTSBURGH, PA) - Johnny Cueto threw eight innings of four-hit ball to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-0 shutout of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jay Bruce got Cincinnati on the board with a solo home run in the second inning. Ramon Hernandez added a three-run single in the third and Brandon Phillips capped the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth.

Cueto walked one while striking out nine to improve to 2-1 with Arthur Rhodes pitching a perfect ninth to preserve the four-hit shutout. It is the fifth shutout this season for the Reds.

They had a total of six in 2008.
