IndyCar Series Gears Up In St. Petersburg

(ST. PETERSBURG, FL) - IndyCar Series teams and drivers are arriving on the gulf Coast of Florida today for Sunday’s Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

The cars will take to the 14-turn, 1.8-mile temporary street course on Friday for two practice sessions.

Graham Rahal of Newman-Haas-Lanigan Racing is the defending race champion. Scott Dixon of Target-Chip Ganassi racing is the defending series champion.

Qualifying will take place on Saturday with the 100-lap race taking place on Sunday afternoon.

The car count for Sunday's IndyCar Series race in St. Petersburg is up to 22 with the addition of veteran driver Darren Manning to the entry list. Manning will drive a second car for Indianapolis-based Dreyer and Reinbold Racing.

He joins rookie Mike Conway in the Dreyer and Reinbold stable. Manning has 25 top-ten finishes in 58 starts in the IndyCar series. He spent last season with AJ Foyt Racing with a best finish of second at Watkins Glen.

The series had 26 full-time cars last season.
