IndyCar Comes To Streets Of Long Beach, Filling Former Champ Car Billing

Last updated on Thursday, April 16, 2009

(LONG BEACH, CA) - The IndyCar Series takes to the streets of Long Beach, California for the first time this weekend.

Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach has long been a staple of the Champ Car World Series and its predecessor, CART.

The absorption of Champ Car into the IndyCar Series before last season led to a conflict with the Long Beach race and the IndyCar Series race in Motegi, Japan last year.

A compromise was struck with the established IndyCar Series teams racing in Japan and the former Champ Car teams racing in California.

Will Power, who is filling in for Helio Castroneves at Team Penske this season, is the defending race winner.
