(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - South Bend Washington High School’s Skylar Diggins has been named Indiana’s Miss Basketball for 2009.

The five-foot, ten inch guard who will play collegiately at Notre Dame next season averaged 29 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals as a senior, leading the Panthers to the Class 4A championship game the third-straight season. South Bend Washington defeated Columbus East to win the title in 2007 before losing to Carmel in the 2008 championship game and falling to Ben Davis three weeks ago for the 2009 title.

The Miss Basketball award is sponsored by The Indianapolis Star and is the result of a statewide vote of coaches and media. Diggins received 175 of the 288 votes cast.

Kelly Faris of Class 2A state champion Heritage Christian was second in the voting with Alex Bentley of 4A champ Ben Davis finishing third in the balloting. Faris will play collegiately at Connecticut while Bentley is headed to Penn State.
