Purdue Faces UConn In Tournament Action Thursday Night

Last updated on Thursday, March 26, 2009

(GLENDALE, AZ) - The NCAA tournament continues this evening as the Purdue Boilermakers face sixth-ranked Connecticut in the first west regional semifinal game in Glendale Arizona.

Purdue advanced to the "Sweet-16" by beating Northern Iowa and Washington in the first two rounds at Portland. The Huskies moved on with easy wins over Chattanooga and Texas A&M in Philadelphia.

Tonight's winner will advance to the regional final Saturday in Glendale where they will take on the winner of tonight's second game between Memphis and Missouri. The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the final four in Detroit.

Connecticut Head Coach Jim Calhoun spent much of his Wednesday news conference discussing tonight's game with Purdue, but a report charging that the UConn program committed major recruiting violations was also a popular topic.

Yahoo Sports reports that the violations were committed while the Huskies were recruiting guard Nate Miles. Miles was expelled from Connecticut in the fall of 2008 and never played for UConn.

Calhoun would not specifically respond to the report other than to say that Miles is not involved with the program and that he is not concerned about the report distracting his team.
